THE COMPANY

Bioinnovación Dental is a milling center located in Multiva, in the Navarra region, Spain. The company specializes exclusively in dental products and services related to the digital workflow. With expertise in high-level CAD/CAM operations, Bioinnovación Dental follows an integrated digital manufacturing concept. The company’s product range includes crowns, bridges, bars, and hybrid structures for orthodontic treatments made from cobalt chrome and titanium alloys using milling and additive manufacturing systems.

THE PROBLEM

Digital manufacturing technologies have significantly improved the process flow, enhancing the overall quality and enabling the digitalization of production. However, it is important to note that all those additive manufacturing (AM) components require post-processing before they can be used for their final application.

Before contacting GPAINNOVA, Bioinnovación Dental used traditional polishing methods to finish our titanium dental bars. However, this system was slow and required a lot of manual labor. In addition, traditional hand polishing exposed workers to chemicals and toxic dust, which concerned this company. They had tried several alternatives, including electrolytic baths, without success.

THE GOAL

Bioinnovación Dental aimed to enhance the perceived quality of their products and services compared to their competitors. Their goal was to position their products as a premium range, enabling them to command higher prices and achieve better profit margins.

To understand customer preferences, the company conducted a market study. It revealed that the improvement of surface quality and aesthetics was identified as the primary area to enhance quality perception. Other key aspects were determined, including lead time and service, patients’ safety and biocompatibility, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and the environmental and workers’ health impact of manufacturing.

By addressing these identified areas, the company sought to differentiate itself in the market and offer high-quality products that would be perceived as valuable by customers.
Another of the company’s goals was to reduce production costs while increasing quality and earning competitiveness.

THE SOLUTION

After conducting various tests, Bioinnovación Dental made the decision to purchase GPAINNOVA’s DLyte100 machine, which utilizes a dry electrolytic polishing process. The positive experience during their visit convinced them to choose this system, as it respected the geometry of the titanium parts and did not erode the surface.
